• How much does skip hire cost?

  The price of hiring a skip depends on several factors, including the skip size and how long you need it. Generally speaking, the larger the skip, the higher the cost. However, pricing differences and extra services can also affect the final price. Contact us to speak to our experienced team and get a quote.

• How do I hire a skip?

  Hiring a skip is a straightforward process, but there are a few steps you need to follow to ensure everything goes smoothly.

  1. Choose the Right Size – First, decide which size skip you need (small, medium or large size skip hire) based on the amount of waste you have. If you’re unsure, it’s always best to go slightly bigger than you think you will need.
  2. Get a Permit (If Needed) – If you plan to place the skip on public land, such as a road or pavement, you will need a permit from your local council. It’s best to arrange this in advance.
  3. Book the Skip – Set a delivery date and confirm the hire duration.
  4. Fill the Skip Correctly – Follow the guidelines on what can and cannot be placed in the skip to avoid any issues. Overloading the skip is also not allowed, they need to be level loaded.
  5. Collection and Disposal – Once the skip is full, the JIT Skip Hire will collect it and ensure proper waste disposal.

• How far in advance should I book a skip?

  JIT offers flexible delivery options, including same day and next day service, depending on availability. For the best chance of securing your preferred time, we recommend booking at least 24 to 48 hours in advance. If you need a skip urgently, give us a call, and we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.

• How long can I hire a skip?

  JIT Skip Hire offers rental periods of 21 days as standard. However, the hire period can be extended. 

  If you only need a skip for a short time, you might consider a wait & load service, where the skip is delivered, filled immediately, and taken away the same day. This is particularly useful for areas where skips cannot be left overnight.

• What is the largest skip available?

  The Roll On Roll Off (RoRo) skips are our biggest skips available, ranging from 20 to 40 yards. These skips are used for commercial skip hire and industrial waste disposal, such as construction and demolition projects. 

  As these skips require a lot of space for delivery and collection, it’s important to check they are suitable for your site.

• Can I put black bags in a skip?

  Yes, black bin bags filled with general household waste can be placed in a skip. However, you must ensure that the bags do not contain restricted items such as:

  • Hazardous materials
  • Electrical goods
  • Liquids or chemicals

  To avoid issues, always check with local skip hire company for a full list of prohibited items before filling the skip.

• What are the skip hire rules?

  To hire a skip legally and safely in the UK, you must follow these important regulations:

  • Permits: Required if placing a skip on public land.
  • Placement: Skips must not block roads or pavements or create safety hazards.
  • Safety Measures: If a skip is placed on a public road, it may require warning lights or reflective markers for visibility at night.

• How do I choose the right skip?

  Choosing the right skip size is important to ensure you don’t overpay or struggle with waste disposal. Here’s how to pick the right one:

  1. Estimate Your Waste Volume – Think about how much waste you’ll produce. It’s better to go slightly larger than needed to avoid hiring an extra skip.
  2. Check Waste Type – Some waste requires special disposal. If you have hazardous materials, you may need a specialist skip.
  3. Make sure You Have Enough Space – Always check that your site has enough room for the skip. If space is limited, a smaller skip or a wait-and-load service might be a better option.

• Are there extra skip hire charges?

  It is rare that additional charges are applied over and above the agreed JIT standard rates unless there has been a breach of conditions. In this case the following may apply:

  • Permit Charges (non-refundable)
  • Waste journey charges + waiting time charges (Assessed on a case specific basis)
  • Additional tonnage
  • Incorrect waste types
  • Slow moving skips i.e. extension of hire time

• Can I put electrical items in a skip?

  The following hazardous items are not permitted in a general skip; asbestos, oily waste, fridges and freezers, pressurised gas bottles, TVs or computer monitors, fluorescent tubes, tyres or liquids. The list is not exhaustive, and if you are unsure please contact us to discuss your needs further.
